Dojo kun is a Japanese martial arts term literally meaning (training hall) rules. It was created by Sensei Gichin Funkasoshi, the founder of the Shotokan Karate school widely credited with popularising “karate do”. The Dojo kun consists of five equal principles outlining behaviour expected and disallowed and are recited at the end of each karate class. Each start with “Hitotsu!” or “One!” which emphasises that all five bear the same importance and priority.
